From June 26 to 28, 2026, four of Europe’s top youth handball teams will gather at the Airport Trophy (AT) to fine-tune their preparations for the upcoming U20 European Championship in

Romania.

As in the past two editions, the tournament once again features host nation Switzerland alongside France, Germany, and Spain. The latter two currently rank among the global elite, arriving in Kloten as reigning U19 world champions and runners-up, respectively. Spain,

in particular, comes in with a formidable track record - four wins in four appearances at the Airport Trophy - and returns as defending champion, once again among the clear favorites for the title. With France bringing its trademark blend of physical dominance and

dynamic play, and a highly motivated Swiss squad eager to make its mark, fans can look forward to a weekend of top-tier youth handball.

Tournament director Christoph Lüthi is equally enthusiastic about the high-caliber lineup, seeing it as confirmation of the event’s growing reputation: “Last year already, all four nations expressed strong interest in returning. The Airport Trophy has firmly established itself as a crucial final test ahead of major international tournaments - whether European or World Championships.” The AT also offers a unique opportunity to witness the stars of

tomorrow up close. In past editions, players such as Dika Mem, the Dujshebaev brothers, Jannik Kohlbacher, and Swiss internationals like Nikola Portner and Manuel Zehnder have all taken the court in Kloten.

Beyond elite handball, the Airport Trophy is known for its vibrant supporting program. One of the standout highlights, according to Lüthi, is the Mobiliar Kids-Day: “On Saturday, primary school children get the chance to train alongside current and former professional players - whether they’ve played handball before or not.”

Fans looking to stay updated on the Mobiliar Kids-Day and the tournament can find the latest information on the official website and Instagram channel. Tickets are available exclusively at the box office, with attractive team packages offered for handball clubs.

Registrations for the Mobiliar Kids-Day and team tickets can be made via the official website (www.airport-trophy.ch).
